Self-Love During Valentine's Day


Truthfully, I know how hard Valentine’s Day can be if you are single or recently single. Even if your relationship status is complicated or hell, even if you are seeing someone, Valentine’s Day isn’t always rainbows and sunshine.

If you have been following me for a while you may know that I am a huge advocate for self-care ESPECTIALLY around the holidays. Last year I spent the month of February taking myself out on a date at least once every week in honor of Valentine’s season and it did wonders for my mental health. Although I’m in a relationship, I think it can be really beneficial to show yourself some love and attention around Valentine’s day and it something I will continue to practice every year.

Whether you are single, dating, married, or anything in-between, I highly recommend taking yourself out on a date this month in lieu of Valentine’s Day. Even if you can’t take yourself out on an official “date” (COVID probs), set some time aside for yourself and practice some self-care and/or pampering. Things like buying yourself flowers, treating yourself to your favorite movie, whatever puts a smile on your face, DO IT.

If you’re not someone who wants to spend this month alone, another great way to spend the holiday is with friends who may feel a similar way as you do. If you are someone who dreads this season, chances are you’re not alone.  If you find it this month hard, consider planning a movie or game night with your roommates or close family. Whatever you choose, just remember that Valentine’s Day is just a day. It doesn’t make you any less deserving of love or romance and I encourage you to use this holiday to show yourself the love and compassion that you deserve.
